I met Jake by posting a fairly desperate call for work in the Seattle Queer Jobs group. She replied asking if I could help with a wedding—and from that, two really lovely things happened: we became friends, and we started working together on events.
I’ve been helping plan and coordinate events since 2002, when I was part of a tiny nonprofit team trying to make a splash to pull off our big annual fundraiser. Since then, I’ve supported everything from weddings and conferences to community gatherings and grassroots fundraisers. I like figuring out what makes each event feel honest and alive, and then quietly helping things come together behind the scenes.
I work with Functions and Gatherings and a few other organizations around Seattle. While event planning isn’t my only job, it’s work I care about deeply—especially when it centers community, creativity, and chosen family.
In a different lane entirely, I’ve also been a cook for about 20 years, mostly in pizza kitchens. It’s fast, hot, often ridiculous work, and I love it in a totally different way than I love event planning. They both require timing, multitasking, and a lot of problem-solving.
Outside of work, I’m a dopamine-chasing crafter. I knit, bake gingerbread houses, and I’m learning to sew and crochet. I’m also dreaming up a future community center for people interested in TV, film, and audio production—complete with a learning space, creative support, shared resources, and, ideally, a movie theater.
What song always gets you on the dance floor?
Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics.
If you were a dessert - what would you be and why?
Chestnut spread with fresh crème chantilly. Why? Try it.
What's your favorite Little Treat while running errands?
Snickers and a Coke. It was my nostalgic go-to when I lived in France, and I still reach for it.
What wedding activity brings you the most joy?
Carrying the cake. Nothing beats walking past a crowd of guests who are all quietly praying you don’t drop it—but also kinda hoping you do.
Favorite way to recharge after an event?
Star Trek and cannabis.
